Observations of a Los Angeles Commuter

By Salvador Valencia

    1. Dyed leather.

a translucent blue replaces the harsh navy of the beam light that means it’s in need of repair

that light is never meant to be that dim although it’s broken i enjoy its shine

a comfort while traveling through concrete rivers during a cold night.

    2.  The same sign

an angel’s nervous system is cinched everyday

    by endless commuters.

the same sign is pressed for every intersection a diagram of where each bus and train pass and it’s left for commuters to decipher

    where the path home is.

    3.  Passing through

    cut through a county’s chest

place down iron lungs filled with either the well or barely dressed.

    when i’m passing through

i examine each swimming pool or ignored yard but once again i’m just passing through.

    4.  Benches

i can travel the country with just a swipe of a card

but i know your never that far off we rendezvous on railway benches

whether it be on union or someone’s backyard. we can go anywhere we want as long

the city provides proper funding otherwise we would be left with stumbling sidewalks

    falling into incoming traffic.
